Minister for Home AffairsMarriages should be feasible in new ceremony locations

RTL Today
According to Taina Bofferding, citizens should be able to marry in the presence of 20 guests.

The law currently dictates that civil weddings can only take place at town halls, but Bofferding revealed her intention to change the situation by opening other locations for ceremonies. The issue has been compounded by the ongoing health crisis and safety measures.

According to the Minister for Home Affairs, weddings should be able to accommodate a maximum of 20 guests, respecting the two metre safety distance.

Many municipalities do not have premises large enough to accommodate this number of guests under current conditions while respecting the safety measures. Bofferding explained officials were considering new locations during a parliamentary committee meeting.

MPs suggested weddings could also be celebrated in a municipal park, for example. Discussions will continue as the Minister has plans to reform civil marriage ceremonies in future.
