After nearly 40 years in the service of the municipality of Lorentzweiler, Jos Roller has decided to step down as mayor – a position which the politician held since 1987.
Roller was a candidate for the citizens’ collective ‘Är Leit’ (“Your People”). He steps down only one month after the long-time mayor of the neighbouring municipality Steinsel, Jempy Klein, announced his decision to retire.
Jos Roller reportedly wants to remain active as a councillor for “a few months” to ensure a smooth transition of power.
Upon enquiry by our colleagues from RTL.lu, Roller stated that by stepping down, he wants to contribute to “political renewal and continuity in Lorentzweiler”.
Our colleagues from RTL.lu also report that Marguy Kirsch-Hirtt from Hunsdorf is likely to succeed Jos Roller as mayor. In this event, Paul Bach and Arno Mersch would join her in the municipal executive.
This proposal must, however, still be validated by a secret vote of the municipal council later this month before it can be officially submitted to the Grand Duke.
