Police had been searching around Lake Echternach since early Sunday evening for a missing 9-year-old boy, who was last seen at approximately 3.45pm at the lake in Echternach. In addition to officers on the ground, a police helicopter was deployed to assist with an aerial search. The Luxembourg Red Cross dog unit and rescue divers were also involved in the operation.

Shortly after 8pm, police said they were investigating every possible location where the boy might have gone. The search extended beyond the lake itself to the surrounding area, the town of Echternach, and also to the Echternach Bridge on the German side of the border, where Luxembourg police officers were reportedly searching around 9.15pm.

The search at the lake was still ongoing after 9pm, although the rescue divers had by then come out of the water. Police, the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps, and the police helicopter continued searching for the child.

At 9.49pm, the police press office finally announced that the missing boy had been found safe and in good health.
