Minister of Internal Security François Bausch revealed the efficiency of the mobile speed cameras in response to a parliamentary question, stating that 7 mobile speed cameras were used in 863 checks, registering almost 64,000 infractions over 12 months.
This represents 175 infractions per day on average.
Bausch explained the checks, an average of two per day, were carried out following analysis of accident-prone locations, recent car accidents, complaints made by the public and demands made by local authorities.
He mentioned the maximum speed registered by speed cameras was 212 km/h, in the case of a motorcyclist flashed on the CR322 between Niklosbierg and Groesteen.
Bausch concluded by emphasising the preventative nature of mobile speed cameras due to their ability to be deployed spontaneously and unrestricted by location. As they increase the likelihood of being caught, Bausch estimated that they also act as a deterrent.
