As part of the government’s overhaul of the national warning system, text message alerts will once again be sent to residents in specific municipalities on Monday. Residents in Beckerich, Bertrange, Ell, Feulen, Garnich, Grosbous, Habscht, Kehlen, Koerich, Kopstal, Mamer, Mertzig, Préizerdaul, Rambrouch, Redange , Steinfort, Strassen, Useldange, Vichten and Wahl can expect to receive a message over the course of the day.
As with previous tests, the SMS will read “LU-ALERT / ALERTE TEST / NO ACTION REQUIRED / AUCUNE ACTION REQUISE / KEINE HANDLUNG ERFORDERLICH / INFOS: GD.LU/LU-ALERT”.
The Ministry of State, the Ministry for Home Affairs, and the Office of the High Commissioner for National Protection advised that there could be delays, meaning the messages will not all be delivered at the same time.
The purpose of this exercise is to check if all warning channels function properly, to see if anything can be improved, and to ensure that people know what to expect in the case of an emergency. The government further plans on regularly running these tests to prepare the country for eventual disasters of natural or industrial origin.
