Around 11 AM, Xavier Bettel, Fernand Etgen, François Bausch and Serge Wilmes will also lay down a wreath of flowers in front of the Gëlle Fra monument. The Prime Minister is scheduled to give another speech at the Hinzerter Kräiz at 11.30 AM.

Echternach is also commemorating the victims of World War II between 5 and 6 pm. Xavier Bettel, Fernand Etgen, Echternach mayor Ives Wenger and Guy Dockendorf, who currently serves as the president of the commission for the remembrance of World War II, will give speeches.

In their official declaration, Luxembourg's government stresses that the National Day of Remembrance still has a symbolic significance 75 years after the Grand Duchy was liberated. Countries need remembrance to embark on the right path towards the future. For this reason, it remains important to keep the memories alive for the younger generations.

The government also used the National Day of Remembrance to reiterate its advocacy of democracy and of human rights. They paid tribute to the brave men and women who, during the war, demonstrated how important it is to guarantee the freedom of every human being.

The remembrance of these dark times should strengthen the collective dedication to a free society and a solidary Europe, the declaration said.
