It’s a “ambitious effort” that aims to “do justice to the medicine of tomorrow.” As a result, the old maternity clinic, which is currently unoccupied, will be demolished. On 54,158 square metres, the new facility is anticipated to “regroup all of the acute medical activities and generally improve the work procedures. “At the moment, the CHL also still faces the problem that the services provided by the clinic in Eich are too far away. To improve the situation, the CHL Centre in Eich will exclusively focus on “non-acute admissions” in the future.

With 474 beds and 378 rooms, the new hospital will be able to accommodate two-thirds of patients in single rooms. The day-care hospital will have 78 beds available. The emergency room will be able to accommodate up to 315 individuals each day.

Minister of Health Paulette Lenert emphasised that the initiative was the product of “excellent coordination” with all parties involved, particularly the CHL personnel. The experiences made during the pandemic have also affected the design. The new hospital will be constructed in such a way that it will be easier to separate patients. During the pandemic, medical practitioners realised that having the ability to separate spaces to isolate contagious individuals from the rest could be useful.

The entire project is expected to cost €820,960,000, €694,821,000 of which will be subsidised by the state and the National Health Fund (CNS) respectively.
