The mobile radar, which only flashes for those driving in the direction of Esch, has been installed to control the speed limits in the area of the construction site, and furthermore to secure the safety of the construction workers.

Given that this mobile radar has only been set up recently, drivers were not aware of it being active. As a result, many were surprised to receive a fine in the post after having sped past.

Within the first 48 hours, the traffic radar flashed more than 5,000 times, which is equal to slightly over 1,7 cars per minute! The speeding record for a law-breaking citizen lies at 170 km/h.

The police were reluctant, however, to confirm those numbers, explaining that it would not 'be worth' setting up regular statistics reporting for short term checkpoints.

They also added that 120m before the radar, a 70 km/h speed limit sign, as well a ''Radar fréquent'' (frequent radar) sign have been set up to warn the drivers.
