As we have known since the signing of the coalition agreement last December, fuel will be taxed more heavily in order to reduce CO2 emissions in Luxembourg. This tax increase became more concrete on Tuesday: the price of diesel will increase by 2 cents per litre and petrol price by 1 cent per litre.
This Wednesday, Pierre Gramegna, the minister of finance, announced to Radio 100,7 that these taxes will come into effect on 1 May.
The increase should be seen as moderate: a full tank of 50 litres of diesel will cost €1 more and a full tank of petrol €0.50 more.
Half of the funds generated through this measure will be allocated to the Fonds Climat (Climate Fund). The other half will be added into the state budget.
