
According to the police, a collision between two vehicles occurred on the intersection between Hollerich and Geesseknäppchen. A driver had crashed their vehicle into a police car with flashing lights on. The police car was hurled off to the right and ended up in some bushes next to the street. Both vehicles were so severely damaged that they were no longer functional. They were towed and everyone involved in the accident was brought to the hospital for a medical check-up.
The police also report that they a pedestrian was hit by a car on Boulevard Grand-Duchesse Charlotte in Hollerich at around 3.30 am. The victim sustained injuries to their head and was brought to hospital after being treated by the first responder (Samu). The driver of the car turned out to be intoxicated. They received a fine and their car was seized.
A resident living in a house in rue des Soeurs Franciscaines in Mersch caught two burglars red-handed. The two culprits jumped out of a first-floor window in an attempt to escape. While one of them managed to flee towards Mersch's town centre and has so far not been located, the other culprit was seriously injured by the impact. They were accompanied to the hospital by the police.
Police also received complaints related to a large gathering that was making too much noise in rue Fort Neipperg in Luxembourg City at 4 am on Saturday morning. Several police patrols arrived on site and noticed that a brawl between eight to 12 people had broken out in a parking garage. When the officers tried to break up the fight, most of the culprits fled. Three people were immobilised. The officers tried to pursue the rest but were held back by another large gathering who blocked the way. Seeing as these people had actively obstructed a police operation, the officers were forced to immobilise two individuals. All five detained individuals were brought to the police station. Two of them ended up spending the night there. All of them were fined.
Finally, the police carried out a major alcohol check in Diekirch. However, the operation did not only involve problems with drunk drivers. One individual was caught doing 106 km/h in a 50 zone. The driver refused to be pulled over, triggering a car chase. After the officers managed to pull the driver over, they confiscated their driving licence on the spot. The individual also turned out to be inebriated, earning them additional penalties. Another driver also tried to avoid being pulled over, as they did not carry a driving licence. They too ended up being stopped, received a fine, and had their car seized. Police also issued a total of 12 fines for drunk driving in Diekirch. One fine and one penalty notice for the same offence was issued in Moersdorf and another two fines during a different check in Diekirch. In addition, police report two violations against traffic regulations. Overall, the police pulled over 88 people, 54 in Diekirch alone.
