Guards at the Luxembourg prison detected a fire in a cell on Thursday.
According to the prison administration, an inmate “set fire to his cell” and “suffered second degree burns to his hands and face”. Prison officers were able to extinguish the flames and rescue the inmate. He received treatment from the first responder (Samu) and was transferred to hospital.
The fire also had consequences for prison employees: five prison officers and a psychiatric nurse suffered smoke poisoning and must undergo a routine medical check-up, the Administration said.
Another fire was reported in Pétange on Thursday evening. One person was injured in a kitchen fire. The Samu as well as the fire fighters from Pétange and Bascharage were on site.
