Open letter to the minister of healthRepresentatives of the patient association demand answers

RTL Today
After the AMMD, the national patient association has now issued a letter to Paulette Lenert.

According to representatives of the association, an increasing number of people are issuing complaints for not being able to visit relatives in retirement homes, hospitals, and care centres.

People of advanced age tend to misinterpret the current situation, and dementia patients are at risk of no longer being able to recognise their loved ones after the end of the lockdown.

The act of saying goodbye to a dying relative has moreover become increasingly difficult under current safety measures. At the very least, children and spouses should be allowed to visit.

Chairman René Pizzaferri also made an appeal that women giving birth should be allowed moral support from their partners.

The patient association further addressed the decrease in patients entering emergency wards. Non Covid-19 cases seem to no longer receive a substantial part of their standard treatments, such as operations and specialist consultations.

More complaints are coming from people too scared to enter hospitals. The letter addressed to minister Lenert therefore proposes reinstating visits to a certain extent, even in times of the corona pandemic.
