Adrien Ney is leaving Luxair amidst the corona crisis according to statements made by the CEO during an interview with RTL. He wanted to retire and had taken the decision a long time ago, but stated that his relationship with the board was very good.
Adrien Ney explained: "I’ve been here for 15 years now. What was important this year: We brought back our customers, stabilised the operations, and organised work from home. This crisis is going to last much longer than we think, in aviation and tourism. I believe it is only right that these decisions should be taken by someone who can carry them out over the following years, which, because of my age, is certainly not the case for me".
While Luxair is well-positioned due to different streams of income, the cargo sector can definitely not compensate for all the lost passenger flights. The Luxair CEO assured that no severance scheme was currently planned.
The company is hoping that its planes can take off again in June. It is important to start small and to apply any new regulations, Ney said, including a possible obligation for passengers to wear masks.
It is generally difficult to tell what the future might look like, the CEO explains. Luxair group is constantly analysing and evaluating the situation. One of the main questions is how consumers will behave after the crisis, and whether air travel will return to normal and stabilise.
