The runaway expands over 4,000 metres and will be completely redone. The tarmac will be removed and replaced piece by piece, while a new drainage system is set to be installed as well. Furthermore, new LED lights will be put along the runway.
Construction work will mostly take place over night when no flights arrive at or leave Findel airport, which means that regular air travel should remain mostly unaffected by the project.
The reconstruction is considered to be long overdue, as the runaway regularly needs to be shut because of defects.
