Meteolux published their review of summer 2022 on Thursday, taking into account the period from 1 June to 31 August. The weather forecaster concluded that this summer has been the driest and sunniest on record, as well as the second-warmest since records at the Findel weather station began.
On average, temperatures matched summer 2019, reaching 20.1 degrees. Summer 2003 still holds the top spot, with average temperatures of 20.5 degrees. In 2022, Meteolux measured 15 days with temperatures exceeding 30 degrees, with one exceptionally hot day registering temperatures of over 35 degrees. There were also four so-called “tropical” nights, where temperatures did not fall below 20 degrees.
Over the last few months, Luxembourg saw 66% less rain than the reference period from 1991 to 2020, with just 74 litres per square metre of rain. Summer 2022 was therefore the driest summer since 1947, particularly in July, sparking fears of drought as just 6.8 litres of rain per square metre were measured. This is around 90% less than the long-term average. The lowest ever rainfall was measured in 1949 with just 2.2 l/m².

In contrast, this summer broke records with 956.2 hours of sunshine - the sunniest since records began. It has already been announced that Luxembourg’s photovoltaic systems have produced more solar energy than ever before as a result.
