While the hospitality sector was finally starting to pick up the pace after two years of pandemic restrictions, it now seems as though clients are once again shying away from dining out. At least that is what a recent study conducted across 71 businesses by the hospitality federation HORESCA indicates.

The survey looked at a number of factors, including profits, reservations, demand, perspectives, and concerns.

43% of businesses stated that there have been fewer reservations in September. 66% indicated that clients have become more hesitant about consuming, due to the general increase in prices.

Hesitancy was measured across three categories: sensitivity to prices (27%), decrease in client numbers (26%), and average decreases in revenue (17%).

Due to the unfolding energy crisis, 63% of businesses in the sector fear that they will have to significantly reduce activities or even close in the coming months.

The number one concern in the sector is the increase in food prices (19%), followed by personnel costs (18%), energy price increases (17%), and staff shortages (15%).
