RTL Today
On 12 March, the social elections are taking place in businesses with more than 15 employees and the Chamber of Employees.

A total of 320,000 employees are able to vote in the social elections. 3,800 businesses were required to have staff delegates stand in elections. The two largest trade unions in the Grand Duchy, the OGBL and the LCGB, have 5,120 and 3,750 candidates standing in all the social elections respectively.

In parallel, the delegates to the Chamber of Employees are also being elected. Over 500,000 employees and pensioners have been able to submit votes up until 12 March. The Chamber of Employees elections are larger in scope than the legislative ones, as cross-border workers are also allowed to vote.

264 people are standing as candidates for the 60 mandates, representing the various trade unions including the OGBL, the LCGB, Aleba, FGFC, the Landesverband, and Syprolux. The OGBL gained 38 seats in the last social elections in 2013, the LCGB gained 15, and the banking trade union Aleba had four. The Landesverband had two delegates in the chamber and Syprolux had one.

At the end of January, Minister of Labour, Employment, and the Social and Solidarity Economy provided an insight to the election procedure in individual businesses. In order to organise elections, each business can register via a digital organisation process. Every business receives an access code for myguichet.lu, which in turn facilitates the registration process.

Results from individual companies will be published throughout the evening. As for the Chamber of Employees elections, the results will come out over the next few days.
