The roadworks for the enlargement of the A3 motorway to Dudelange will start next Sunday. Phase one is between Croix de Gasperich and the interchange in Livange. The hard shoulder will be closed in the direction of Metz and the speed reduced to 70kph. The works in the opposite direction will start mid April.
There will be speed cameras on the route to help avoid accidents, said François Bausch during a question session in the Chamber of Deputies. Emergency services access will be trickier than usual. Of course, the rule of leaving an emergency lane in the middle in case of traffic jams remains.
To reduce the impact of the works on traffic, two lanes will remain open as much as possible. On rare occasions, there might be only one lane, said the Ponts et Chaussées. But this would never be during rush hour. It will be the case this weekend between 8pm on Saturday and 6am on Monday, however, as well as overnight next week.
The works are expected to last until September 2024, taking five years in total.
