More than 40 businesses from the tourism sector hold the Luxembourgish eco label, which certifies that they respect a list of over 80 criteria in the domain of climate and environment protection. In the future, the visibility of the label and its meaning are to be increased.
Minister for the Environment, Climate and Sustainable Development Carole Dieschbourg and Minister for Tourism Lex Delles both spoke at a recent conference and explained that although the European and Luxembourgish labels slightly differ, they have almost the exact same aims.
Minister Delles addressed the growing demand for sustainable offers in the tourism sector: "Luxembourg is already very attractive in terms of sustainability, especially since so many offers circle around activities in nature. This helps promote the country abroad."
The labels are not limited to those who own their own buildings, and the age of the latter is also not taken into account when the assessment is made. The label criteria do however include energy efficiency, water usage, and waste management.
Businesses interested in acquiring the precious label can visit the eco centre Pfaffenthal for a personal consultation and presentation of the necessary criteria. Once an external auditor has confirmed that everything is in order, the business will receive the label. The procedures of the European label are similar.
All pertinent information regarding the label can be found on the website ecolabel.lu.
