Wildgen's fundraising event took place at Sandweiler's Cultural Centre, during the Bazaar for children's aid in India and Nepal.
In total, Wildgen covered 22 kilometres, the equivalent of starting at Camp 5 and climbing to Everest's summit. The treadmill had an incline of 12%, so Wildgen added extra kilometres to make up for it. The challenge lasted 3 hours and 40 minutes, in which he maintained a speed of 6 kilometres per hour and took just one break of 20 minutes after covering 11 kilometres.
The idea to complete the challenge on the treadmill came to Wildgen after his retirement four years ago, which led him to increase his exercise.
Last year, he virtually climbed Mont Blanc to raise money for the Cancer Foundation. This year, he chose a more personal cause: the Aide à l'Enfance de l'Inde et du Nepal, which helped him and his wife adopt their two children 32 years ago.
Wildgen uses no special equipment and is not a trained sportsman, just a man hoping to raise money for a good cause.
