Caritas presents social almanacThe climate crisis cannot be forgotten over coronavirus fears

RTL Today
Caritas presented their social almanac on Thursday and made an appeal to remember the dangers of the pending effects of climate change.

The crisis has shown that people are able to adapt quickly to novel circumstances and can accept compromises to their daily life style. The same spirit could be reanimated to protect the global climate.

In preparation of the pending update on the national situation by PM Xavier Bettel, the christian relief agency has created its own evaluation of the social developments throughout Luxembourg. According to their report, the crisis has created an increase in poverty. Chairwoman Marie-Josée Jacobs explains:

"We are seeing major difficulties in the hotel business and gastronomical services. We risk of creating a new poverty class of people that were previously able to make a living. The same goes for hairdressers. Many of these occupations no longer provide sufficient pay to cover rents or general living expenses."

It is important to create opportunities for the people affected most by the lockdown to ask for help and support in a dignified manner. The focal point in Carritas' almanac is put on the ageing of the population, and includes various different authors.
