In Luxembourg, during the debate in Parliament in January, a majority of MPs voted in favour of compulsory vaccination for people over 50 years of age, as well as for people working in care facilities or hospitals. An appropriate law is currently being drafted.

Will the Chamber of Deputies reject compulsory vaccination?

Green Party Justice Minister Sam Tanson believes that in Germany, party political interests played an important role and that the votes were not just about the principle.

Many members of the Bundestag were in favour of compulsory vaccination, but could not agree on a bill.

In Luxembourg, the approach was different from the outset, as it was the government that proposed the law. The politicians never wanted to turn the subject into a majority-opposition political discussion, but rather to rally a majority number of deputies, regardless of the outcome, the Minister of Justice emphasises.

Sam Tanson hopes that the law will nevertheless be voted on before the autumn. Prior to the vote, a reassessment of the pandemic situation by the group of scientific experts should take place and, if necessary, adjustments to the bill could be made.
