High-ranking civil servant departureTom Eischen's departure "not the end of the world": minister Claude Turmes

RTL Today
Reacting to the announced resignation of Ministry for Energy high-ranking civil servant Tom Eischen, Claude Turmes said the departure is "not the end of the world."

Tom Eischen has been the head of the general energy directorate since 2011, when the directorate fell under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of the Economy. At the beginning of July, Paperjam announced that Eischen would be leaving the civil service.

The first DP-LSAP-The Greens coalition saw the energy department fall under the remit of the Ministry of the Economy, headed by an LSAP minister. However, the latest government grouped the department under the Ministry for Energy and Spatial Planning under Green Minister for Energy Claude Turmes.

Some sources have suggested that not everybody agreed with the new minister's approach within the department, implying this is why Eischen is stepping down.

Turmes, for his part, reacted to the news by telling RTL that the department is undergoing a time of change and is recruiting new employees, which he described as finding it "nice that the government has approved the hiring of new employees." He said he looks forward to setting up the new ministry made up of people already having been in the department and of new faces.

The minister summarised his reaction by saying Eischen's departure is "not the end of the world" and said he would make the most of the last few calm days of the summer before government returns to its full schedule.
