Near BurdenTrain services resume after WWII bomb discovery

Rail traffic on line 10 between Ettelbruck and Goebelsmuehle was interrupted on Friday morning following the discovery of an unexploded bomb dating back to the Second World War.

According to CFL, the bomb was located near the Burden tunnel.

Trains were at a standstill in both directions while the army’s demining service checked the area.

CFL put on a rail replacement bus service to enable passengers to continue their journey. Buses were in place between Ettelbruck and Goebelsmuehle.

On Friday afternoon, the train operator announced that services would gradually resume, although delays and cancellations were to be expected.

This is the second time in under a month that a WWII bomb has brought trains to a standstill near Ettelbruck, after a similar explosive was located on 18 May.
