Police were called to Rue DR Herr in Ettelbruck at around 5.30pm on Friday after a person was seriously injured in a knife attack. The victim was taken to hospital, while officers quickly located and stopped a suspect in a nearby street.

On the orders of the public prosecutor, the suspect was arrested and taken into custody. They are due to appear before an investigating judge on Saturday.

In a separate incident in Bilsdorf, a person was allegedly injured with a knife by their partner. The victim suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.

The partner was arrested on the instructions of the prosecutor's office and brought before an investigating judge on Saturday morning.

Sobering cells and driving bans

Police also reported several alcohol-related interventions on Friday.

At around 4pm, officers were called to the A3 motorway near the Berchem service area after a woman reported a sleeping driver in the middle of the motorway. The caller and her passenger helped move the vehicle onto the hard shoulder before police arrived. A breathalyser test returned positive and the driver was issued with an immediate driving ban.

Later, at around 7pm, police responded to reports of an intoxicated individual causing a disturbance at a petrol station in Gasperich. Officers determined that the person had stolen a bottle of alcohol and was behaving aggressively. Following a medical assessment, they were taken into custody as they were deemed a danger to themselves and others.

A further intervention took place at around 10pm on Rue Adolphe Fischer in Luxembourg City, where an intoxicated person was reportedly obstructing traffic. Officers noted that the individual was struggling to walk due to their level of intoxication. After a medical examination, they too were taken into custody for their own safety and that of others.
