Police intercepted two motorists late at night on the A4 motorway near Pontpierre, after observing what appeared to be a speed contest on a section restricted to 70km/h due to roadworks.
The first driver was stopped without incident, while the second was apprehended further along the motorway. Police recorded the second driver travelling at 135km/h, almost double the speed limit, in the construction area.
Officers also discovered technical faults with his vehicle, prompting authorities to impound it.
During the stop, police detected the smell of cannabis inside the car. The driver admitted to being a regular user at home. He tested positive for drugs but refused to submit to a requested blood test, leading to his driving licence being revoked.
