The incident was reported at around 6.15pm. Officers arriving at the scene found that security personnel at the shop had already seized the two thieves, who had attempted to flee with goods worth €788.

Both were arrested following the public prosecutor’s orders, and were brought before magistrates on Friday morning.

Drug possession, driving whilst intoxicated

The police report also highlighted the arrest of two people in Luxembourg City for drug possession. The suspects were observed climbing over barriers to gain access to private land at around 8.30pm on Thursday. Officers took the men into custody, where a search revealed each had two packets of cocaine on their person.

A police patrol on the N8 between Mersch and Reckange spotted a vehicle making erratic movements at around 9.35pm. When stopped, the driver failed a breathalyser test and promptly had his licence confiscated.

Elsewhere, another man was stopped by police in Kayl after accosting pedestrians and acting crudely on Rue de Tetange. He began acting aggressively towards officers and was taken into custody as he was deemed to be a danger to himself and others.
