Unexploded ordnance and remnants of war material are still regularly found in the Grand Duchy. The Luxembourg Army has now issued a warning on its Facebook page, highlighting the risks and providing clear guidance on how to react in such situations.

Even decades after the Second World War, unexploded ordnance continues to be discovered across the country. These items may be buried underground and can surface during construction work, walks in nature, or agricultural activities.

The Luxembourg Army warns that the danger is often underestimated. Even if such objects appear heavily corroded or harmless, they may still explode and cause serious injury.

A clear rule: do not touch

The army stresses that such devices must never be touched, moved, or opened under any circumstances, as any handling carries a risk of explosion. If you come across suspected war material, you should remain calm and keep your distance, avoid touching or moving the object, and immediately contact the police on 113 or the Army’s demining service at 247-57940.

Once reported, specialists will attend the scene to safely and securely dispose of the unexploded ordnance.
