Animal welfareVeterinary surgeons remain on duty during the crisis

RTL Today
On Wednesday morning Jean Schoos, the chairman of the vet association, joined RTL Radio for an extended interview.

Veterinary surgeons remain on duty during the corona outbreak to cover emergencies and important vaccinations. All appointments are subject to strict distancing guidelines, however. Slaughterhouses and farms also continue to be monitored, as Jean Schoos explained during his interview.

The chairman regrets however that vets do not receive any protective gear apart from surgical masks, which are considered insufficient.

Cats are able to be infected with Covid-19, but can only transmit the virus on very rare occasions.

Although vets receive government support during the pandemic, the economic impact is still noticeable, according to Schoos. "Only the coming months can tell if everybody makes it."
