Court of appealsVictim requests higher damages amount for human trafficking

RTL Today
On Wednesday, a trial began at the Court of Appeals as a victim of human trafficking has requested a higher amount of damages.

In the initial trial, the defendants were charged with human trafficking and sentenced to one and a half years suspended prison sentences and a €3,000 fine. The defendants stood guilty of forced labour, as they employed people illegally and paid them irregularly. The events detailed in the trial occurred between July 2014 and December 2016.

During the first trial, the victim's lawyer requested €29,000 in damages for their client, but the court only granted the victim €5,000 back in June. The lawyer has repeated the earlier request, highlighting that this amount makes up €1,000 for every month that the victim was forced to work.

The trial continues on 23 January.
