Xavier Bettel "We have a good basis for a bit of normality": PM

On Thursday afternoon, Prime Minister Xavier Bettel unveiled further details about the second phase of the national exit strategy.

The efforts of the past weeks and months are beginning to bare fruits, the prime minister emphasised in his 24-minute speech. Xavier Bettel reiterated the importance of collective responsibility for a smooth transition out of the nation-wide lockdown.

The strict confinement and stay-at-home rules will be lifted on Monday. This means that visits to family and friends are allowed again. A maximum of six people can be invited to a home, and a maximum of twenty people can meet in public, while respecting safety distances. If a two-meter-distance cannot be upheld, masks are mandatory.

Smaller shops and service providers will also be able to restart operations again on Monday, including hairdressers and beauty salons. It will be up to the individual stores and salons to create a safe work environment and adhere to safety regulations.

Outside sport activities are also allowed, as long as their is no physical contact involved.

Cultural institutions, such as archives, libraries, the CNA in Dudelange, or the CNL in Mersch will reopen their doors as well.

Bettel also reported on the ongoing efforts of the administration's task forces and noted that progress was being made on the issue of partial unemployment.

The PM also confirmed that every citizen from the age of 16 on will receive an additional fifty masks. This also applies to cross border workers employed in the Grand Duchy.
