Emergency services were called to the N12 near Eschdorf shortly after 10am on Sunday after a racing car left the road and crashed into safety barriers during the first round of the renowned Eschdorf hill climb, part of the European Hill Race 2026 calendar. Two SAMU Air Rescue helicopters, along with ambulances from Wiltz, Rambrouch and Nordstad, were dispatched to the scene.
The incident occurred when a Belgian driver’s Porsche left the track at high speed and struck the safety barrier.
According to initial reports, the driver and a race marshal were injured in the crash. The marshal was airlifted to hospital but later died from their injuries. Police confirmed on Sunday evening that the victim was a 48-year-old woman.
Her husband, who was present at the scene, and the driver both suffered minor injuries. The driver was taken to hospital for further checks, while the husband received treatment on site.
Following the accident, organisers took the decision to cancel the remainder of the event. The decision was met with understanding from all participating drivers.
