The reason for Aachen police's exhaustion was a "small kangaroo" that had escaped its home. From the image released with the police report, it is difficult to say whether it is in fact a kangaroo or a wallaby.

The incident began at around 8.30am when a man contacted his local police station to advise them he had been trying to capture a kangaroo for around an hour and a half without success. The animal proved to be adept at eluding his rescuer, as well as the police officers that later joined the attempt.

A police patrol took up the chase, which gave the kangaroo the opportunity to make himself comfortable in a hedge. After about an hour, officers were able to catch the animal safely with a net.

No one was hurt, neither human nor animal, but the kangaroo was taken to the vet for a check-up just in case, before it was handed over to the relevant authorities.

It is unclear where the kangaroo originated from.
