HIT AND RUN – Police are appealing for witnesses after a pedestrian was seriously injured in a hit-and-run in Remerschen on Sunday evening. The incident happened at around 8pm on the N10. Authorities are looking for a dark Volkswagen and are asking anyone with information to come forward.

MINIMUM WAGE DISCUSSIONS – Following a nearly one-hour meeting with trade unions, Minister of Labour Marc Spautz described the discussions around the minimum wage as “highly sensitive”. The trade union front, however, called the talks a “failure”, accusing the government of manipulating the calculation of the median income – the reference value for the minimum wage – in a way that would result in an increase of just 0.6%

LABOUR REPORT – New research from the Luxembourg Institute of Socio-Economic Research (LISER) shows 5,200 people entered the Luxembourg workforce for the first time in 2024, while 8,200 foreign residents also took up employment. But the data highlights a high turnover, around 30% of new arrivals leave within a year, and half are gone within five years. Cross-border workers from France continue to grow in number, while figures from Belgium and Germany are down.

IRAN WAR – US President Trump says he has proposed a 15-point peace plan to Iran, and is optimistic a deal can be reached. American media report the plan includes a one-month ceasefire and a halt to Iranian uranium enrichment, but would not demand a change of government in Tehran. In return, sanctions would be lifted and Iran would receive support for civilian nuclear energy. The plan is said to have been passed through Pakistan, which has good relations with both sides.

Iran has also signalled it will partially reopen the Strait of Hormuz, saying ships from nations not involved in the conflict may use the waterway. The announcements sent oil prices down this morning. However, the United States and Israel say military operations against Iran will continue, with three thousand American paratroopers expected to deploy to the region. Exchanges of fire are ongoing, Israel and several Gulf states report being targeted by Iranian drones and missiles, while Israel has struck targets in Iran and Hezbollah positions in Lebanon.

DENMARK ELECTIONS – Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen’s Social Democrats have won Tuesday’s general election, but with their worst result in more than a century. The party took just under 22% of the vote, leaving the centre-left bloc without a majority. A centrist party now holds the balance of power, and coalition negotiations are expected to be complex.

META FINE Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has been fined $375 million for failing to adequately protect young users. The company says it will appeal. The ruling is the first in a series of legal actions against Meta and other platforms over youth protection.

BTS CONCERT – More than 18 million people around the world watched the South Korean pop group BTS perform together for the first time in years. Netflix streamed the Seoul reunion concert live, saying the broadcast reached number one in 24 countries, the group’s first stage appearance since members completed mandatory military service.

MOON MISSION – NASA is preparing to send four astronauts on a journey around the Moon as early as 1 of April. The Artemis II mission will not land but will fly by the Moon, the first crewed lunar mission since Apollo 17 in 1972. On board are three Americans and one Canadian, including the first woman and the first person of colour to travel to the Moon.

The Luxembourg Football Federation (FLF) has appointed Cristina Correia and Daniel Zirbes as the new coaches of the national women’s team, following the dismissal of Dan Santos. Correia was previously a member of Santos’ coaching staff, while Zirbes has served as coach of the men’s U16 team, among other roles. From now on, the role will be shared between the two appointees.

The Football Supporters Europe group has today filed a lawsuit with the European Commission targeting football’s world governing body FIFA over “excessive ticket prices” for this year’s World Cup finals, complaining the tickets were overpriced and that FIFA has a monopoly over the sales.

CYCLING – Denmark’s Magnus Cort Nielsen won the second stage of the Tour of Catalonia. He is now second overall, behind Frenchman Dorian Godon. Luxembourg’s Mathieu Kockelmann finished 17th on the day and is 92nd in the general classification.
