Some 600 people are celebrating an old Iranian/Persian tradition at a chalet near Bourglinster, at an event that was officially requested in advance.
Locals had contacted the police after noticing a large number of cars and people in the area between Bourglinster and Gonderange. Police later confirmed that around 600 members of the Kurdish community are marking Nowruz – a New Year’s celebration with a longstanding tradition in Persian culture – at a chalet near Bourglinster.
Junglinster Mayor Ben Ries confirmed upon enquiry that the chalet had been officially booked in advance. Ries said he was contacted by police around midday and subsequently reached out to the organiser personally.
No incidents had been reported as of Saturday afternoon. Any parked cars that were causing obstructions have been moved by their owners. Police told RTL that they would conduct regular patrols until the end of the event to monitor the situation.
The celebration is scheduled to continue until 8pm on Saturday.
