Employment80 jobs under threat at Mahle

German group Mahle / Mahle-Behr has announced it will close its Foetz development site. Trade unions have criticised the fact that management did not deem it useful to inform them of this decision.

Following the closure of numerous divisions in the Delphi group, it now appears to be Mahle's turn. The unions have called it a a disastrous announcement for the automotive research and equipment sector in Luxembourg, after they discovered the news through members of staff on 6 November.

Mahle / Mahle-Behr had established themselves in Luxembourg in 2015 after the acquisition of the thermal part of the Delphi company in Bascharage, but by 2017, around 60 people had been fired.

The unions said the argument given for the announced closure was based on a 2018 redundancy plan which meant the company no longer had the necessary skills to keep up with developments in the automotive sector. They assumed the steps were clearly premeditated to force the closure of the company.

The trade unions continued to deplore the fact the the company's financial strategy will put 80 employees at risk, and said they were committed to using all necessary legal means to support the employees affected.
