Mischel's controversial Facebook post led to her resignation this week from her positions as vice-president of the party and president of the women's section of the ADR. On Wednesday morning, the women's section published a statement sharing their shock and regret at the handling of the situation.
The statement claimed that party president Jean Schoos and secretary-general Alex Penning used expeditious methods to achieve their goal, spreading their preconceived opinions in the press. It also claimed they would not have deemed it necessary to consult with Ms Mischel in advance.
The two men had given the impression of having made their decision from the start.
The statement said the women's section viewed this as misuse of executive power within the party and wished for opportunities to continue to exercise their freedom of expression and to pursue a growth-oriented policy. The women's section also hoped that Ms. Mischel's resignation would be temporary, suggesting she run for the presidency again at the next congress.
