Friends and members of the British-Luxembourg Society (BLS) arrived in-style via a quintessentially British red double-decker routemaster bus. That very bus was also present in 2018, when the BLS - in the presence of then-ambassador John Marshall - was ‘relaunched’. Founded in 1947, the BLS was originally made up of just one Brit and 23 Luxembourgers, and to this day the association is proud to count citizens of both countries in its ranks. That’s not to say that you have to be British or Luxembourgish to join, however.

In her speech on Tuesday, BLS President Louise Benjamin spoke to attendees about past and future events set fourth by the club, highlighting the benefits of the intertwining of both the Luxembourg and British cultures. Ms. Benjamin also extended a warm welcome to any perspective BLS members, regardless of nationality, emphasising the only criteria is that they share a love for both cultures.

Drinks and nibbles were shared during Tuesday’s celebrations, as guests mingled on the grounds of the resplendent ambassadorial residence, serenaded by the musical talents of Mia and the Moon.

As the host of the event, a speech was naturally also held by British Ambassador to Luxembourg Fleur Thomas - who, in case you missed it, we interviewed early in her time as Ambassador, an interview which in true RTL Today fashion also included a somewhat unusual element in the form of Kachkeis-tasting on video. Thomas spoke on her team’s ambitions in continuing to strengthen the links between Luxembourg and the UK, much as her predecessor John Marshall did during his tenure through #LuxUKLinks, which was partially published exclusively here on RTL Today both in text and video form.
