Coronavirus violationsCafés and customers in Esch overstep the mark

RTL Today
On Sunday afternoon police reported that a number of bars had stayed open later than permitted on Saturday night.

Police had to intervene in multiple locations in the early hours of Sunday morning.

By 20 past midnight, two cafés in Esch still hadn't closed shop: in the first, roughly 40 customers neither kept to social distancing measures, nor wore a mask, while the second saw 12 further individuals still drinking, breaching public health regulations.

In the city centre, another bar was discovered open and with no less than 40 customers enjoying a drink at 1.20am.

Establishments were closed and reported to the Ministry of the Economy, with pub owners risking not only a hefty fine, but a licence withdrawal.

According to current rules, all bars and cafés must close at midnight.
