The first incident took place on Allée John W. Leonard in Mersch, where two unknown men had made their way onto a construction site and coiled up a quantity of copper cables. A police patrol arrived on the scene before they could make off with the haul, at which point the two men fled the scene. They were tracked down shortly afterwards, and an official report was filed.
Overnight into Monday, a police patrol carrying out a security check discovered a number of cut copper cables along the railway line between Bettembourg and Livange, in all likelihood left ready to be picked up at a later stage. According to initial findings, unknown individuals had made their way onto the site and severed the cables. Signs of tampering were also picked up at various entrances and barriers around the site. An investigation is under way.
