The sirens are specifically designed to be used in case of a nuclear alert. The tests will continue in the future, said the CGDIS.
In a statement issued on Friday, the emergency services stressed the importance of informing recent arrivals from Ukraine of the regular siren test, lest it cause them to panic or stress.
Several thousand refugees from the Ukraine have come to Luxembourg since Russia invaded their home country in February. The Ministry of the Interior and the Grand-Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS) are therefore collaborating with the National Reception Office (ONA), the Luxembourg Red Cross, Caritas Luxembourg and LUkraine ASBL to transmit this information to refugees.
The authorities have also appealed to families hosting Ukrainian nationals to inform them of the siren tests and to warn them ahead of time. More information is available here.
