The European Commission report honed in on pensions and taxes in the Grand Duchy in its report, but the Chamber of Employees has examined the recommendations and claimed that the recommendations do not focus on the country's 'real issues'.

The Chamber of Employees president, Nora Back, pointed out that the report lacks a focus on social issues, highlighting the inconsistency given the  commission launched an initiative for increased social policies in 2017.

The director of the Chamber of Employees, Sylvain Hoffmann, described the recommendations as a 'disappointment'. Hoffmann elaborated that the Chamber of Employees had expected that the European Pillar of Social Rights initiative would incorporate a social element in recommendations.

However, it appears that the European Commission has not added a social focus in its recommendations despite the fact that the Chamber of Employees has noted a deterioration in many social domains, notably fair working conditions - one of the principle categories of the European Pillar of Social Rights.

Hoffman deplored the fact that the European Commission did not add a social policy dimension, instead keeping to its classic recommendations. Contrary to the European Commission, the Chamber of Employees outlined Luxembourg's key issue that the proportion of individuals nearing the poverty line is growing. However, the European Commission made no mention of this.

The Chamber of Employees has submitted its report on the recommendations to the government and hopes that there will be more of an emphasis on social issues on a European scale.
