If the motion is passed, the mask mandate on public transport will be abolished.

Nevertheless, vulnerable people are still advised to wear an FFP2 mask when commuting by bus, train, or tram. MP Mars Di Bartolomeo from the Luxembourg Socialist Workers’ Party (LSAP) will be in charge of overseeing the motion.

Aside from the Covid-related proposal, MPs will also have to vote on other issues on Thursday afternoon, including a draft law concerned with the creation of an interchange at the Ettelbruck train station, and the financing of the housing project ‘An der Schmëtt’ in Wecker.

Public petitions cross signature threshold

Two public petitions recently crossed the threshold of 4,500 signatures, making them eligible for discussion in the Chamber of Deputies.

Petition 2301 was published on 3 April, the day it was first announced that the Ettelbruck maternity unit was forced to close temporarily due to staff shortages. The petition argues in favour of an emergency paediatrics centre in the north of the Grand Duchy. The Ettelbruck maternity unit has reopened in the meantime.

Petition 2332 argues that parental leave should be increased fro six to nine months.
