Paediatricians agreeChildren will benefit from returning to school

RTL Today
Illnesses like the influenza, for which no vaccine exists yet, represent a greater danger to children than COVID-19.

Paediatricians worldwide agree that the reopening of schools is of upmost importance. Keeping children at home would only increase negative impacts on their lives, while infection risks in schools can be considered relatively low.

Even though the novel coronavirus is still being studied around the globe, the fact that children experience the smallest infection risks appears to be widespread by now. In fact, doctors from CHL explained that chances of contracting other influenza-like illnesses are much higher for children. By consequence, teaching staff will therefore have to be on alert for diseases other than Covid-19.

Paediatrician Dr Fernand Pauly underlines the importance of children returning to schools and praises the elevated hygiene standards in the country. Nevertheless, he conveyed his hopes that the adaptive measures would soon bear fruits, and that within a month the government could start deregulating life again. Confronted with the question of what to do with children who disobey and take off their masks, Dr Pauly noted that the this problem would not differ much from the numerous adults who still refuse to wear masks.
