Given that the CIGR Syrdall is embroiled in a harassment and financial malpractice scandal, the executive office decided to meet on Tuesday to come to an agreement on how to proceed. Ultimately, the executive has decided to allow the public prosecutor's office to follow through its investigation on the allegations and await the conclusions. Internally, the centre will be subject to an audit in an endeavour to provide transparency.
On Tuesday, the Lëtzebuerger Wort published new details on the sexual harassment allegations, which claim the general coordinator had sexually harassed a female employee.
CIGR Syrdall: Head of CIGR accused of harassment towards female employees
According to RTL sources, there were no new revelations at the meeting on Tuesday. The board of directors only agreed to await the result of the judicial investigation before moving on to make a decision. The municipality of Contern announced that they had submitted to complaints two weeks ago, one against the coordinator accused of harassment, and another against X for financial misconduct.
The second complaint revolves around the CIGR using €760,000 in funds to redevelop its current offices, far exceeding the amount of €200,000 to €250,000 agreed upon prior to the redevelopment.
Mike Hagen, member of the CIGR Syrdall board, said the amount was actual in the domain of €550,000 and the hall in question had needed renovations, as it lacked changing rooms and sanitary installations.
As for the harassment, Contern mayor Marion Zovilé-Braquet added that she was astounded nothing had been done beforehand.
According to our sources, the municipalities of Junglinster and Schuttrange have not filed a complaint as the municipal authorities wish to await the results of the investigation. However, the municipalities involved have had their lawyer send a letter to the centre, asking for explanations.
Sandweiler has yet to take a stance in the affair, whereas the Contern municipality made accusations in May, which were dismissed.
The CIGR Syrdall covers five municipalities - Schuttrange, Niederanven, Contern, Junglinster, and Sandweiler - and employs 145 individuals.
