Covid restrictions such as the curfew certainly contributed to the decline in recorded traffic infringements between 2019 and 2020.

Ministers Tanson, Kox, and Bausch provided insight into the numbers and statistics in their official response to a parliamentary enquiry by MP Dan Biancalana (LSAP). A total of 262,000 fines were issued over the course of the year, as well as 7,700 verbal notes, which means that the incident was officially recorded.

Similarly, the number of court cases dropped to 7,900, 800 fewer than in 2019. Police courts have treated 19,500 cases during that same period, a decline of 2,000. Nevertheless, many drivers still lost their licence after being stopped by the police in 2020. A total of 1,400 licenses were revoked for drink driving or speeding.

The number of people forced to take part in the mandatory training exercises at Colmar-Berg following a twelve-point loss has meanwhile increased to 450, so 60 more than in 2019.
