On Wednesday, the Mutualist Medical and Supplementary Fund (CMCM) warned of the new scam, in which fraudsters are attempting to use the organisation's name to trick people out of their money. More specifically, a fraudulent letter has been asking people to renew their membership card and transfer a payment.
CMCM made clear in a press release and on social media that this is unequivocally a phishing attack. The message could not have come from the organisation, since the cards never expire and no payment would ever be required.
CMCM advises members not to click on any of the links, not to hand over personal or banking details, and to always check the sender carefully.
Asked about the matter, CMCM also confirmed that it is currently launching a new app. Because of the surge in scam attempts of late, more members have been reaching out to the organisation, worried that this too might be another attempt at fraud.
The app, however, is in fact CMCM's own, with the previous 'CMCM' app now becoming 'myCMCM'. According to the official website, fraudsters are most likely exploiting this moment of change to try to catch people out in CMCM's name.
