National Health FundCNS announces deficit in 2021 report

RTL Today
It is the second year in a row that the National Health Fund (CNS) has reported a deficit, still reeling from the aftershocks of the pandemic.

Following a €12 million deficit in 2020, the CNS recorded a consecutive deficit of €55 million last year.

Their revenue amounted to €3.5 billion while expenses reached €3.6 billion. Reserves now amount to a little more than €900 million, which equals about a quarter of annual expenses.

Since 2018, CNS expenses have started outgrowing revenue. Experts believe this is due to structural problems that have been further aggravated by the pandemic.

915,000 people benefit from the services of the CNS, out of whom a third are cross-border employees.
