The Chamber of Employees (CSL) announced the breach in an email to people whose data it holds, for example those who have taken part in courses at the Lifelong Learning Centre. The CSL filed a complaint with police on Monday against the alleged perpetrators. Asked about the incident, the deputy director of the CSL, Martine Mirkes, told RTL that the attack had come from outside and that no one had yet been identified.
The incident took place on 26 July, and the CSL team took measures that same day. Contact details such as names, email addresses, phone numbers and postal addresses, as well as financial data, could have been extracted from the servers. Such data could then be used to commit fraud. Mirkes said a "relatively small amount of data" had been copied, but that the Chamber still wanted to inform everyone concerned, since they could potentially be affected.
The CSL also advises users to be very cautious if they are asked for a password or a payment. It also recommends changing their password on the CSL system. The Chamber has provided contact details to those affected in case they have further questions.
