Shortly after midnight in Lintgen, the police was informed of a vehicle swerving on the road. In Mersch, the reported vehicle was eventually tracked down and stopped by police. A breath test on the driver came back positive, and she was handed a driving ban and a report.
The same fate awaited another driver a few hours later in Esch-sur-Alzette. Early on Wednesday morning, police received a report of a car being driven with squealing tyres on Place de la Paix.
A patrol shortly afterwards tried to pull the driver over, but he ignored the signal, leading to a pursuit. He was stopped two streets further on and checked, with alcohol once again in the mix and the test coming back positive.
At around 5.40pm on Tuesday, a patrol noticed a vehicle because of the driver's erratic driving. The driver was stopped, but while officers were checking his documents, he restarted the car and drove off.
Several police patrols and the police helicopter were quickly deployed to search for the fleeing driver. His vehicle was later found, but there was no sign of the man. According to initial information, he had fled on foot through a nearby park. Further searches were unsuccessful.
On the orders of the public prosecutor's office, the vehicle was seized and an investigation was launched.
Police are also reporting a burglary at a house on Tuesday, at around 4.45pm on Route de Peppange in Bettembourg. The occupants had noticed the break-in on their return from holiday.
The unknown perpetrator had forced the lock on the front door to gain entry. Once inside, the rooms had been ransacked and several gold items had been stolen.
A report has been filed and an investigation is under way.
